Daniel Craig Spotted With A New Omega Seamaster Professional 300M At The Paris 2024 Olympic Games
All eyes are on Paris this summer as the city hosts the Summer Olympics. But today, it’s not the XXXIII Olympiad that has caught our attention. Instead, it was the watch on the wrist of someone in the crowd minding their own business and enjoying the games. That someone happens to be Daniel Craig, former James Bond actor, Omega ambassador, and infamous wearer of unreleased watches.
It was the sharp eye of the folks at Gear Patrol that first spotted what appeared to be a black-dialed Omega Seamaster Professional 300M on a mesh strap with no date window. At a glance, you might have mistaken it for a titanium NTTD Seamaster, or maybe even the James Bond 60th Anniversary model. However, the pictures are too clear to make that mistake. As we all know, this would not be the first time Craig is seen wearing an unreleased watch: last year he was spotted with the white-dialed Speedmaster at an Omega event. But what are the chances that the former Bond actor would swing by Omega’s Q branch in Biel to pick up yet another unreleased watch? Let’s take a look at what we know so far.
Could this be a new no-date Omega Seamaster Professional 300M?
The short answer is yes, absolutely. It’s a new, no-date Omega Seamaster Professional 300M. Since the story broke, speculation has subsided, as Omega has now officially confirmed that the watch is indeed a new Seamster model that will be released later this year!
It was no accident. As you can see above, Daniel Craig was in the company of Omega’s CEO and President, Raynald Aeschlimann, wearing the watch while spectating an equestrian event at the Olympics. In other images officially distributed by the brand, Craig is shown at the Omega house in Paris. Still, no official information has been provided as to the watch itself, so we can’t speak as to its specs. That said, what the images show is certainly enough to get excited.
The clearest images we’ve been able to obtain confirm that this new Seamaster Professional 300M does away with its 6 o’clock date window. The mesh strap seems to be the same steel version used on the 60th Anniversary model. But that’s not all. We can now also see that the finer wave pattern found on older SMP references (as well as the James Bond 60th Anniversary model) makes a comeback. We also noticed that the bezel insert does not have the same glossy appearance as those of the current models. It’s hard to tell from the image, but could Omega have opted for matte ceramic or even an anodized aluminum insert?
A Spy’s Seamaster
It wouldn’t be that far-fetched. Recently, we have seen images of the Omega Seamaster watches issued to members of various military institutions. These have been brought to light on the Watches of Espionage blog. As you can see in the image above, those Seamasters feature a brushed ceramic bezel insert. You might now be wondering, is not the watch on Daniel Craig’s Wrist? Well, that was my first thought upon seeing the images this morning. But that was before Omega confirmed that this was a different beast altogether. A closer look shows that the lume on those models is slightly too tan for it to have been a match.
This is all we know for now. However, several questions remain: When will this new Seamaster model be released? Will the mesh bracelet be the new default? Or is it just Daniel Craig’s choice? Finally, will there be a version with sword hands that harkens back to the 2254.50.00? It seems we’ll have no choice but to wait for Omega to release the watch later this year to find out more.
