Fratello Talks: Our Favorite Affordable Watches Vol. 1
Hello, and welcome! You’re listening to Fratello Talks. This week’s episode features RJ, Daan, and Nacho, three members of the Fratello team who join forces to wax poetic about some of their favorite affordable watches. This is the first volume of what will almost certainly become a recurring topic for the podcast. There are simply too many great watches with reasonable prices to cover them all in one episode. But over the next 26 minutes and nine seconds, you’ll hear all about a handful of them, with the primary focus placed on three. These are the same watches you’ll find on the guys’ wrists this week. So, without further ado, let’s jump into a wrist check.

RJ kicks things off in style with his Seiko SNJ028. This ana-digi dive watch is part of the brand’s Prospex line and comes equipped with a solar-powered quartz movement. Released during Baselworld in 2019, this watch brought back the looks of the classic Seiko “Arnie” famously worn by Schwarzenegger in the ’80s action hit Predator. It debuted at €470, which the silver-bezel model (SNJ025) sells for today.
Many of you will recognize Daan’s watch as the beloved Seiko SKX007. This particular model is a “made in Japan” version of the watch, which makes it slightly pricier. However, this ubiquitous fan-favorite dive watch can still be found in the €350–500 range.
On Nacho’s wrist is his latest watch purchase, the lume-dialed Citizen Promaster NY0040-09W. A riff on the classic NY0040, this model does away with the glossy black dial and replaces it with a glowing slab. In daylight, it has that distinctive, sickly yellowy-green hue that many glow-in-the-dark objects share. Today, he’s paired it with one of the white Tropic-style straps available in the Fratello Shop (not shown above).
Fratello Talks: Our Favorite Affordable Watches Vol. 1
Though here at Fratello, we often cover watches with price tags running into the thousands (if not tens of thousands), we still very much enjoy many of the more affordable options out there. This episode of Fratello Talks spotlights three such watches. Each of the team members selected an affordable watch from his collection. This time, it’s a trio of Japanese watches, including two Seikos and one Citizen. Tune in to hear all about what makes these watches so great despite their relatively humble price points. As you might imagine, there are more than a couple of honorable mentions along the way. However, as previously stated, this will certainly not be the final time we dedicate an episode to this topic.
In the meantime, let us know your favorite affordable watches in the comments section below. We may even end up covering some of them in future episodes! Be sure to tune in next week for another episode of Fratello Talks!
